How time flies! We spent months preparing for the tekom annual conference − the industry event for technical communication − and then the trade fair went by in a flash for us, the more than 4,000 visitors and approximately 170 exhibitors. The sheer speed made the three days of the fair from November 8−10 just that much more intensive. They were chock-full of important conversations, interesting talks, exciting industry news and a few amusing team moments.
The news − iiRDS
Industry 4.0, digitalization and other similar topics made their way into the sacred halls of the exhibition grounds in Stuttgart, which hosted the event. This year’s theme was “Information 4.0.” And in the end, digitally connected information ended up being the primary focus: What is intelligent information? And how can it be provided and put into actual practice?
In our view, there has been a giant leap forward concerning the automated provision of information. Thanks are due to the tekom “Information 4.0” working group, which has been dealing with the new intelligent information Request and Delivery Standard, or iiRDS for short. iiRDS makes it possible to intelligently and digitally load content from various content management systems to content delivery platforms of different providers across industries. With the help of five representative showcases in total, a number of well-known companies illustrated the benefits of this new standard in a series titled “Application of tekom iiRDS”.
DOCUFY was part of the action, of course. In an application scenario that focused on the topic of maintenance information from a single source, we partnered with SCHEMA to show how iiRDS will make a maintenance technician’s work easier in the future. The trends − use- instead of feature-driven
In addition to all of the interesting talks and discussions about standards and guidelines (eDOC), trade fair visitors who came to our booth had the opportunity as usual to learn about our software solutions’ new features and functions. In the process, one thing became quite clear: the trend is moving away from strictly feature requests towards calls for company-wide solutions.
Our customers want to get more out of their technical documentation and make the contents usable for the entire company.

In other words, this means that of course our software has to meet certain requirements, but our existing and potential customers want to get even more out of their technical documentation in the future and finally use the contents across departments and divisions throughout the entire company. They wish to get precisely the (intelligent!) information that they need − anytime, anywhere − no matter whether they are online, offline or using a mobile device… This is a trend where we really hit the mark thanks to our Multi-Level Documentation strategy. What’s more, we were able to directly underscore this fact at the booth with our augmented reality model. After all, what could be more intelligent (when it comes to information) or more convincing than making technical documentation content from CMS (COSIMA) available on an iPad via content delivery (TopicPilot) or as something users can personally experience in an augmented reality app?
